Wood firing at the International Ceramic
Research Center, Skælskør, Denmark.
I have always strived to throw with a light hand to bring out the beautiful transparency in the porcelain. Where formerly I decorated surfaces, these days I commit more work to the wood-fire processes as this has opened new potentials. By allowing the distortions I formerly would have 'corrected' when throwing, the profiles remain more dynamic. During the long firing, ash deposits are caught on the translucent surfaces adding drama and poetry or a palette of colors and textures
